Ashoka is a member of the Mimosaceae clan of the botanical world.

Everyone is familiar with the name of the Ashoka tree.  This is the same tree under which Sita was kept in Lanka.  This is a nice, beautiful and shady tree.  Its letters are 18 to 20 fingers long and 3 fingers wide.  Initially, these letters (leaves) have the color of Tamravarna - that's why it is also called "Tamra Pallava".  Its flowers appear in bunches and earlier in the floral period they become orange followed by red.  Therefore, Ashoka also has the name "Hempushp".
